He described the initiative as a major step towards police modernisation and said such a large fleet of vehicles was being provided to the Jharkhand police for the first time since the state’s formation.
According to officials, the state government has approved 1,255 patrol vehicles and 1,697 two-wheelers for the police department.
In the first phase, 636 patrol vehicles and 849 two-wheelers are being distributed among various districts and police stations.
The Chief Minister said the new vehicles would help the police improve patrolling in rural and urban areas and enable faster response to criminal incidents.
Referring to a recent kidnapping case in the Dhurwa area of Ranchi, he said the police acted swiftly to rescue two minor children and bust an inter-state child trafficking gang.
Several ministers, senior officials and police officers were present on the occasion.
