First National Lok Adalat postponed due to SIR engagement

The District Legal Services Authority has announced the postponement of the First National Lok Adalat, originally scheduled for 14 March, owing to the ongoing engagement of judicial officers in Special Intensive Review (SIR) work. The notification was issued today.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) of the Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate stated that, as notices had already been served in numerous traffic cases, traffic guards have been instructed to inform recipients by phone about the postponement.

Arnab Ghoshal, Member Secretary of the State Legal Services Authority (SLSA), West Bengal, issued the notification, which has been circulated to all Chairmen of District Legal Services Authorities, as well as Chief Judges and District and Sessions Judges.

It may be recalled that, under directives of the Supreme Court, judicial officers in West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand have been tasked with scrutinising approximately six million voters categorised under “Logical Discrepancy”. According to the CEO’s Kolkata office, around 600,000 cases have already been settled within a week.

With the inclusion of 200 additional judges to assist, the entire process is expected to take at least one month to complete.
