In 2025, India lifted their first-ever Women’s ODI World Cup title on home soil in Mumbai. The Blue Tigresses achieved the highest successful run chase in women’s ODI history in a dramatic semi-final win over Australia before defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final.

Despite three consecutive group-stage losses to South Africa, Australia, and England, India rallied to reach the final for the third time, showcasing resilience and composure that captivated cricket fans globally.

BCCI President applauds team

BCCI President Mithun Manhas lauded the team, saying:

“Our women’s team has demonstrated extraordinary skill, character, and consistency, culminating in a historic ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup victory in 2025. To be recognised alongside some of the most celebrated teams in global sport underscores their hard work and the growing stature of women’s cricket in India. We wish the team every success at the Laureus Awards.”

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia also praised the recognition, noting it reflects the global impact of the team’s achievement and the inspiration it provides to the next generation of cricketers.
