Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav has said that sending notices to voters on a large scale during Special Intensive Revision (SIR) amounts to a vote-banning campaign by the BJP government, drawing a parallel with demonetisation.

“The BJP’s intentions were bad then and remain bad now,” he claimed.

Yadav, in a statement issued here on Wednesday, said that earlier only Muslims were harassed for documents, but now Hindus are also receiving repeated notices.

“Someone was claiming that those caught casting wrong votes would be sent to detention centres. Will they now determine citizenship based on votes and evict people from their farms, land, and homes?” he questioned.

Yadav said that when even the families of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Nobel Prize winner Amartya Sen were questioned, what would happen to the common people?

“These poor people won’t even be able to fight. On the contrary, without voter cards, they and their family members, including the elderly and children, will live in constant tension and worry, fearing the forfeiture of their rights, inheritance, property, and savings,” he claimed.

Yadav said that the truth is that the BJP has completely lost its support base due to its dishonesty, deceit, and historic decline in conduct. That’s why the BJP now relies only on rigging, he alleged.

“The BJP’s so-called “Panna Pramukhs” are themselves turning their backs on the party, as they are no longer able to show their faces in their villages and communities due to the BJP’s malpractices, wrong policies, inflation, unemployment, and poverty,” he said.

“The simple truth is that this is a huge conspiracy by the ECI to cut the votes of PDA,” he added.
