Sukal Tudu (26), a resident of Labhpur in Birbhum district, who had been working as a migrant labourer in Rajasthan, was killed in a tragic road accident just a day before he was due to return to his ancestral home.
The young man had travelled to Rajasthan to support his impoverished family in Labhpur. After working there for around six months and saving some money, he had planned to return home for a short visit. However, fate intervened, and he never made the journey back. News of his death left his family devastated. Arrangements are now under way to bring his body back to Birbhum.

“We are in touch with the family and will stand beside them in this hour of crisis. Party leaders have already visited his house,” said Labhpur MLA Abhijit Sinha.
There have been repeated allegations that Bengali-speaking migrant workers face harassment while working in other states. In recent times, apart from accidental deaths, incidents of murder have also been reported. The latest tragedy in Rajasthan has added to growing concerns.
Tudu’s family resides in Subalpur village in the Chauhatta area of Labhpur block, Birbhum. On Sunday at around 8 p.m, after finishing work, he was returning home when he met with a serious road accident. He died on the spot. Local police recovered the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. After establishing his identity through his address and phone number, the authorities informed his family in Labhpur.
Neighbours in Subalpur village are also mourning his untimely death.
Meanwhile, TMC’s national general secretary, Abhishek Banerjee, recently extended assistance to the family of another migrant labourer, Prasanna Kumar (39) from Purulia, who died in Karnataka, helping to bring his body back home by air.
