Project backed by multiple studios
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Davis and her husband Julius Tennon are developing the film through their banner JuVee Productions. They are collaborating with Homeworld Entertainment and Stranger Comics.
The story comes from creator Sebastian A. Jones, who is attached to both write the screenplay outline and direct the film.
Producers on the project include Davis, Tennon, Simon Swart, Andrew Cosby and Jones.
A revenge tale set in Asunda
Set in the fictional world of Asunda, The Untamed follows a shadowy figure known as The Stranger. He returns to the dangerous town of Oasis bound by a dark pact.
The character has seven days to gather the souls of those who killed his wife and child. There are serious repercussions for failure.
But when he meets a young orphan named Niobe, that a meeting could turn his journey of revenge into something closer to redemption.
A blend of global influences
The Asunda universe mixes Medieval European elements with African historical influences. The creative vision draws inspiration from the work of J. R. R. Tolkien while also echoing the tone of classic Spaghetti Westerns and epics by Akira Kurosawa.
Jones described the film as “a poetic and cinematic drama wrapped up in a badass vengeance tale,” highlighting its stylised emotional core.
Full-circle moment for Davis
The collaboration carries personal significance for Davis. She previously wrote the foreword for Jones’ 2017 graphic novel Niobe: She is Life, making this adaptation something of a full-circle partnership.
Davis is widely known for playing Amanda Waller in DC titles including The Suicide Squad and the series Peacemaker. Most recently, she appeared in the action film G20, which she also produced alongside Tennon.
