Welsh actress Morfydd Clark has officially been cast as Cynthia Lennon in Sir Sam Mendes’ upcoming four-part film series on The Beatles.Clark, 36, is widely known for playing Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

With this new role, she steps into the world of one of music’s most legendary bands.

A four-film look at The Beatles

Sam Mendes’ ambitious project will tell the story of The Beatles through four separate films, each focusing on one member of the iconic Liverpool group.


The ensemble cast includes Harris Dickinson, Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan and Joseph Quinn. The films will explore the band’s rise to global fame as well as their personal lives behind the spotlight.

Cynthia Lennon’s story

Clark will portray Cynthia Lennon, John Lennon’s first wife. The two met while studying at art college in Liverpool and married in 1962, just as The Beatles were beginning their rapid rise to fame.

Their son, Julian Lennon, was born in 1963. The couple separated in 1968 after Lennon began a relationship with Yoko Ono.

Cynthia Lennon later passed away in 2015 after battling cancer. Her story forms an important part of Lennon’s early years, long before global superstardom reshaped his life.

More big names join the cast

The project also features several other notable actors. Harry Lawtey will play Stuart Sutcliffe, The Beatles’ original bassist who left the band in 1961.

Lucy Boynton, known for Bohemian Rhapsody, will portray Jane Asher, Paul McCartney’s former fiancée, who ended their engagement during a television interview.

Farhan Akhtar is set to play renowned Indian composer Ravi Shankar. James Norton and Harry Lloyd have already been announced as the band’s manager and producer.

With its scale and cast, Mendes’ Beatles series is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about music biopics in recent years.
