BJP MLA’s kin found dead inside flat in Lucknow, suicide suspected

The kin of a BJP MLA allegedly committed suicide, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

In Lucknow’s Sushant Golf City area, Shivam Tripathi, nephew of BJP MLA Vinay Kumar Dwivedi, was found dead in his rented flat, police said on Monday. The body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan in a flat located in Tower A2 of Rishta Manhattan Society on Sunday night.

Tripathi, a native of Balrampur district, was involved in the property business and had reportedly been under financial stress for a long time. According to the police, no suicide note was recovered from the spot. The incident came to light when the landlord received no response despite repeated calls, after which the door was broken open with the help of security staff.

Family members have alleged that Tripathi’s business partners cheated him financially and ignored repeated demands for repayment, causing him severe mental distress. The family has stated that they will file a case against the partners.

An Instagram post shared earlier by Tripathi, in which he was seen working out at a gym with an aggressive caption, has also sparked discussions following his death. Police said all angles are being examined, and further action will be taken after receiving a formal complaint.

Shivam Tripathi is survived by his father, Rajesh Tripathi, his mother, and two younger brothers, Prakhar and Abhishek. BJP MLA Vinay Kumar Dwivedi represents the Mankhnoon (Mehnon) assembly constituency in Gonda district.
