Shubham Ranjane, who previously represented Mumbai in India’s domestic circuit, is set to be in line for a T20I debut after being named in the United States of America’s 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which begins in Sri Lanka and India on February 7.

The USA have been drawn in Group A alongside Pakistan, Namibia, the Netherlands and defending champions India. As part of their World Cup preparations, the side has undergone an extended training camp in Sri Lanka to adapt to subcontinental conditions.

The camp focused on skill enhancement, tactical awareness and team bonding, with USA set to open their campaign against India in Mumbai on February 7.

“Our training in Sri Lanka pushed this team to new heights. We hit every target and that’s a testament to the players’ dedication and hard work.

“The World Cup squad is strong, balanced, and ready to dominate in every department. We’ll make those final adjustments before heading to Mumbai, and we’re fully confident in our team’s potential,” head coach Pubudu Dassanayake said in an ICC statement on Friday.

Ten of the 15 squad members featured for the USA at the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup. Ranjane, who has already played four ODIs for the side, is yet to make his T20I debut. Mohammad Mohsin and Shehan Jayasuriya are the other players in the squad who will be seeking their maiden international appearance.

This will be USA’s second appearance at the Men’s T20 World Cup. In their debut campaign in 2024, the Monank Patel-led side stunned former champions Pakistan on home soil before advancing to the Super 8 stage in the West Indies. They will now look to build on that breakthrough showing at the upcoming global event.

USA Cricket was suspended by the ICC Board on September 23 last year for serious breaches of membership criteria. However, the ICC clarified that national team players would not be penalised for the organisation’s governance and financial issues, confirming that U.S. teams would continue to participate in ICC events under interim oversight by the global body.

With USA Cricket under suspension and having filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the ICC said it worked in coordination with the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) to establish a new selection process aimed at ensuring transparency and a merit-based system for selecting eligible players.

“All Members of the selection panel submitted Conflict of Interest forms to the USOPC ahead of the meeting and the selection meeting was observed by a USOPC appointed Compliance Officer to ensure adherence to the Cricket Selection Procedures,” the ICC said.

USA batter Aaron Jones, who was part of the training camp in Sri Lanka, was ruled ineligible for selection after being charged by the ICC with five breaches of the Anti-Corruption Code and suspended from playing all forms of cricket with immediate effect.
