Renowned singer Arijit Singh today announced retirement from playback singing.
In a post on the social media platform Instagram, Arijit said that he is not going to take any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. He said that he is ‘calling it off’.

Born on 25 April 1987, Arijit hails from a musical family in Murshidabad, West Bengal. His singing talent was first recognised on the popular reality show ‘Fame Gurukul’ in the year 2005. He tasted stardom with the remarkable success of his song ‘Tum Hi Ho’ from the film ‘Aashiqui 2’ in 2013.
In 2016, Arijit was honoured with the prestigious National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for his song ‘Sooraj Dooba Hai’ from the film ‘Roy.’
In 2025, he was conferred with the Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian honours of India, by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi for his exceptional contribution to the music industry.
