Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday said that India has started a new semiconductor industry and in the entire semiconductor industry, lithography, which means printing the circuit on wafer, is the most complex and for which most precision work is required to be done.

The minister said this during a visit to the headquarters of Dutch MNC ASML, which specializes in the development and manufacturing of photolithography machines, which are used to produce integrated circuits.

Vaishnaw said that the Dholera semiconductor fabrication facility “will be using the ASML equipment. So, I have come to visit here and understand their technology.”

The IT minister emphasised that ASML (Advanced Semiconductor Materials Lithography) coming to India is going to be a significant development as many of the equipment manufacturers from all over the world are now looking at a base in India, which is because of the design capabilities, huge talent pool and the consistent policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

ASML is known as the world’s supplier to the semiconductor industry.

Notably, it enables the leading chipmakers of the globe to mass produce patterns on silicon, helping to make smaller, faster, and greener chips.

Earlier, a delegation of ASML had participated in SEMICON India 2025, where it had expressed a strong interest in becoming a partner in India’s semiconductor journey.
