Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on state Governor RN Ravi after his walkout from the Assembly without delivering his opening address, saying that the actions of the Governor “insulted” the House and were against the protocols.
He also questioned the need for states to have a Governor, recalling DMK founder CN Annadurai’s remarks.

“Actions of the Governor insult the 100-year-old Assembly. I would like to recollect the phrase of CN Annadurai who said before that, “Why does a goat need a beard, and why does a state need a Governor?” Stalin said.
He said that neither his predecessors — Annadurai and Kalaignar M Karunanidhi — nor he disrespected the Governor.
However, the act of the Governor now and previous occasions is saddening. Tamil Nadu Assembly reflects the sentiments of crores of Tamils,” the Chief Minister said.
Stalin further asserted that the Governor should value the people of the state. “He should respect the majority government which is formed by the public vote. The Governor is spreading malicious campaigns against the government in public platforms. His attempt to enact a similar move in the Assembly is unacceptable,” the CM added.
‘National anthem is yet again insulted’: TN Governor walks out of House without delivering opening address
His remarks came after Governor RN Ravi walked out of the state Assembly, alleging that the Speaker didn’t allow the National Anthem to be played.
According to reports, Governor Ravi demanded that the National Anthem be played after the Tamil Anthem.
However, Tamil Nadu Speaker Appavu allegedly refused, following which the Governor walked out of the Assembly without reading the opening address.
Later, the Lok Bhavan issued a statement, claiming that the Governor’s mic was repeatedly switched off, and he was not allowed to speak.
The statement further stated that the atrocities against Dalits and sexual violence against Dalit women are sharply increasing but the issues were totally bypassed in the speech prepared by the state government.
“The National Anthem is yet again insulted, and the Fundamental Constitutional Duty is disregarded,” it added.
Following Ravi’s walkout from the House, Tamil Nadu CM Stalin moved a resolution.
“The assembly doesn’t accept the fact that the Governor walks out of the Assembly without reading the customary speech prepared by the state government. The assembly considers the speech in English of the governor once uploaded into the systems of the MLAs as speech delivered and will recorded as such in the Assembly proceedings,” he added.
This is the third such instance when Governor Ravi walked out of the Assembly without reading his opening remarks. He had also boycotted the 2024 and 2025 addresses over the same issue.
