Chandrima Bhattacharya, Trinamul Congress women wing president today congratulated the Supreme Court order that has instructed the Election Commission of India to publish the list of people under the logical discrepancy category who have been summoned for the hearing.

Mrs Bhattacharya said Trinamul Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee and party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee had raised their voice against the Election Commission of India for its arbitrary decisions that had led to the harassment of people irrespective of party affiliation.

She said the judiciary is based on the principles of natural justice. “The BJP has flouted all laws. The ECI kept on changing orders to satisfy the needs of the BJP. The orders were not written instructions but just Whatsapp messages.

Mrs Bhattacharya, who was a member of the 10-member delegation that had met the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on 31 December, 2025 under the leadership of Abhishek Banerjee in Delhi, said: “We had requested Mr Kumar not to harass the voters. He had raised his finger when Mr Banerjee protested and said the delegation comprised of elected member while he was merely a nominated officer. Today, the Supreme Court had brought his finger down,” she said.

Partha Bhowmik, Trinamul Congress MP, said the ECI refused to accept the admit card of Madhyamik examination as one of the documents. “Today, the Supreme Court has directed the ECI to accept it as one of the documents. This has been a longstanding demand of Trinamul Congress,” he said.

Bratya Basu, state education minister said the order of the Supreme Court should be put up before the office of the ECI and the Chief Electoral Officer here. “The BJP wanted that those called for the SIR hearing should run from the pillar to post to show their documents just to harass them. The Supreme Court order has put an end to the harassment,” he said, adding: “Mr Banerjee has rightly said in the meeting at Barasat today that we should speak the language which the BJP understands.”
