Former vice president Jagdeep Dhankar made a brief and low-profile appearance at the Jaipur Literature Festival 2026 here Sunday evening to launch a book.
Dhankhar, along with Sanjoy K Roy, Festival Producer and Managing Director, Teamwork Arts, launched the first edition of “The Unbecoming”: A Story of Identity, Purpose & Inner Freedom by Kartikeya Vajpai. The session saw Vajpai and Sanjay Pugalia in conversation with Milee Ashwarya.

However, keeping the grace and decorum of the high constitutional office he had held, Dhankhar did not speak.
The Unbecoming is a tale about identity, purpose, and inner freedom. It is a reflective author conversation that explores what lies beyond achievement, ambition, and public success. Through his debut novel, Kartikeya examined the fragile nature of identity and the quiet courage it takes to let go of labels people inherit or accumulate over time.
Set against the world of professional cricket and rooted in Eastern philosophical traditions, the book traces a journey inward—towards presence, flow, and self-awareness. Joined by veteran journalist and media leader Sanjay Pugalia, this session reflected on reinvention, leadership, and the fear of the unknown, asking a timeless question: ‘Who are we when we step away from the roles that define us?’
Moderated by publisher Milee Ashwarya, the conversation brought together literature, lived experience, and introspection, offering audiences a thoughtful meditation on purpose, impermanence, and inner freedom.
