Sunjay Kapur estate dispute

Bollywood divorces usually fade quietly into the past. But this one? It has returned with twists, accusations, and a courtroom spotlight that feels straight out of a dramatic film script. Karisma Kapoor, her children, and her former husband Sunjay Kapur’s third wife, Priya Kapur, are now locked in a serious legal face-off over property, wills, and inheritance.

And yes, it’s as messy as it sounds.

What sparked the fresh legal storm

The trouble began after industrialist Sunjay Kapur passed away in July last year. Soon after his death, questions started rising over who controls his assets. Karisma Kapoor’s two children, Samaira and Kiaan Kapur, have now accused their stepmother Priya Kapur of forging Sunjay Kapur’s will.

According to them, the will presented by Priya before the Delhi High Court has suspicious digital records and inconsistencies. They believe this document was created to give Priya full control over Sunjay Kapur’s property.

Big allegation. Big consequences.

Priya Kapur hits back hard

Priya Kapur has firmly denied all claims. She has called the accusations “bogus” and insists the will is completely valid. According to her, she is now a legal heir and has every right to defend her interests after her husband’s death.

She has taken the matter to the Supreme Court, seeking certified copies of documents linked to Sunjay Kapur and Karisma Kapoor’s 2016 divorce proceedings.

Why an old divorce is back in focus

Here’s where the past returns to haunt the present.

In 2016, Sunjay Kapur had moved the Supreme Court asking that his divorce case with Karisma Kapoor be transferred from Mumbai to Delhi. However, during the case, both sides settled peacefully. The divorce was finalised through mutual consent.

Karisma Kapoor was granted custody of their children, while Sunjay Kapur received visitation rights. At the time, it looked like a clean, drama-free ending.

But now, those sealed documents have suddenly become important again.

Priya Kapur wants access to everything from that old case: the petition, annexures, settlement papers, applications, and court notings. She argues these documents are needed for “official use” in ongoing succession dispute before the Delhi High Court.

The court now has to decide sensitive question: can confidential divorce documents be shared with a third party?

This decision could have a major impact on the inheritance case.

Children seek criminal action

Adding another layer to the drama, Karisma Kapoor’s children have reportedly approached the Supreme Court seeking criminal action against Priya Kapur. Their concern mainly revolves around the digital trail of the will shown in court.

The Delhi High Court has already reserved its order on an injunction related to the property dispute.

Senior Advocate Maninder Singh, along with advocate Smriti Asmit are representing Priya Kapur.
