For the first time in its history in Bengal Ramakrishna Mission is setting up a co-education school for general students in Jhargram.

It is for the first time that the school will pursue the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum.

Swami Suviranandaji, general secretary of Ramakrishna Math and Mission is likely to inaugurate the school shortly.

Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Nimpith had donated 10 acres of land and building to Belur RKM authorities at Srirampur in Jhargram, which will be used for the school building.

Hectic work is on to complete the building. The students coming to the school will be offered bus facilities.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in a bid to provide best education to the ST students, had handed over Ekalavya Model Residential School in Jhargram to RKM in 2016. Swami Suhitanandaji Maharaj, one of the vice-presidents of the Order was then the general secretary. The school started in 2017. It offers education from Classes VI to XII. The students stay in separate boys and girls hostels.

The Ekalavya School in Jhargram is now known as the Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira Ekalavya Model Residential School. Best education is provided to the ST students and they are doing very well in Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations. Most of the students at this school are first-generation learners and coming from economically challenged backgrounds. The school is in great demand in Jhargram.

Ramakrishna Mission runs 12 top schools in Bengal the most popular being the schools at Narendrapur and Purulia. The schools were set up Swami Lokeswarananda Ji and Swami Hiranmoyanandaji in the late 1950s.The RKM has its schools in Madla, Asansol, Ramharipur, Baranagar, Rahara, Sargachi, Sarisha, Kamarpukur and Taki.

Ramakrishna Mission runs degree colleges across the country. In Bengal, it has three autonomous degree colleges at Narendrapur, Rahara and Vidyamandira beside Belur Math.
