Round 6 of the Vijay Hazare Trophy concluded on Tuesday, January 6, across multiple venues in the country. While matches at most centres got underway without interruption, fixtures in Jaipur were delayed by nearly two hours due to dense fog and poor visibility.

As a result, the Elite Group C clash between Mumbai and Himachal Pradesh was reduced to 33 overs per side, while the Goa vs Punjab fixture was curtailed to 40 overs.

Several star players were in action, with the spotlight firmly on Shreyas Iyer, who returned to competitive cricket after a prolonged absence due to a spleen injury sustained in October. The Mumbai captain, who is also India’s ODI vice-captain pending final medical clearance from the Centre of Excellence, made an immediate impact by scoring a fluent 82 off 53 balls against Himachal Pradesh. The knock underlined both his match fitness and his readiness ahead of the ODI series against New Zealand, scheduled to begin on January 11.

Mumbai’s other big names, however, had a quieter outing. Suryakumar Yadav managed 24 off 28 balls, while Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for 15 off 18 deliveries.

Elsewhere, the day witnessed several standout individual performances. Hyderabad batter Aman Rao produced a sensational unbeaten 200 off 154 balls against Bengal, an innings featuring 13 sixes and 12 fours. The double century, his maiden in List A cricket, proved decisive in Hyderabad’s commanding win.

Kerala’s Vishnu Vinod continued his fine form with an explosive unbeaten 162 off just 84 balls against Pondicherry, powering his side to a successful chase of 248 in only 29 overs.

Delhi opener Priyansh Arya impressed with a brisk 80 off 41 balls against Railways, while Punjab’s Harnoor Singh anchored his side’s chase with an unbeaten 94 against Goa. Making his first appearance for Punjab this season, Shubman Gill had a brief stay at the crease, scoring 11 off 12 balls before being dismissed by Goa pacer Vasuki Koushik, with Suyash Prabhudessai completing the catch.

Among the bowlers, Mohammed Siraj returned excellent figures for Hyderabad, claiming four wickets against Bengal. Shivam Dube also starred with the ball, picking up four wickets for Mumbai in their narrow seven-run victory over Himachal Pradesh.

The Andhra Pradesh vs Haryana encounter ended in a rare tie, with the VJD method coming into play after bad light forced an early halt in the 48th over.
