Former chief minister and Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur alleged that the state government is functioning with political vendetta by misusing power. He said officers have also begun to cross their limits, indulging in politics under pressure.
Addressing media persons here on Thursday, Thakur cautioned that the path being followed by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is neither right in intent nor will it lead to a positive outcome.

Accusing the state government of harassing BJP MLAs with political vendetta and foisting false cases against them, he raised questions over a viral letter related to the collection of funds for the Kangra Carnival.
Thakur alleged that the chief minister is using the power of the state to target former Congress and Independent MLAs who have distanced themselves from him and joined BJP. Citing the case of Hamirpur MLA Ashish Sharma, he said a mining case was registered by the police, allegedly acting like a political party, even though the Mining Department itself did not lodge any complaint.
In Nalagarh, he claimed, cases were filed one after another against former MLA K L Thakur and his family with political malice.
He further alleged that people were being searched to register false cases against former MLA Rajinder Rana and his family.
According to him, the chief minister is conspiring against BJP MLA Inder Dutt Lakhanpal and has crossed all limits in an attempt to falsely implicate former Congress minister and BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma.
He said cases were also registered against former Gagret MLA Chaitanya Sharma and his father. A conspiracy was allegedly hatched to demolish the house of Devender Bhutto and notices were issued, despite the construction having been completed after following all legal procedures, he alleged.
He accused the government of targeting former MLA Ravi Thakur and further claimed that cases of attempt to murder were registered against state BJP president Dr. Rajeev Bindal and former minister and MLA Sukhram Chaudhary.
The commercial establishments of former Independent MLA from Dehra, Hoshiar Singh were also allegedly targeted, he alleged.
Referring to a social media post by the Information and Public Relations Department, Jai Ram Thakur said the BJP’s election symbol was shown upside down.
He asled officers to reflect on their position once the Congress government is no longer in power and advised them against tying their future to the government.
Thakur also said BJP MLA Surender Shourie had raised the issue of illegal tree felling in Banjar, where hundreds of green trees were cut, but no case was registered.
He added that the chief minister had assured a vigilance inquiry on the floor of the House, which is yet to begin.
In Dharampur in the Mandi region, he alleged that thousands of trees were felled and timber was dumped. During the inquiry, the names of the wife and relatives of a Congress leader reportedly surfaced, but even before the investigation could begin, the timber was allegedly dumped into a khad (seasonal rivulet). No action has been taken to date, he rued.
