Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, December 18, 2025, addressed the Indian diaspora in Oman at an event named ‘Maitri Parv’, calling them the greatest custodians of the centuries-old relationship between the two nations. This visit is the last leg of his three-nation tour after successful visits to Jordan and Ethiopia.
Welcomed with enthusiasm with chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” “Vande Mataram” and “Modi, Modi,” the Prime Minister praised the Indian community for its contributions and described the diaspora as a living example of co-existence and co-operation, thereby reiterating the bond shared between India and its people residing abroad.

Highlighting how pluralism in India shapes its global identity, he outlined that diversity in India forms a strong base for our culture, with every day bringing in new colours, every season becoming a new festival, and every tradition coming in with a new idea. Connecting this cultural perspective with India’s global presence, he added, “That (diversity) is the reason that wherever we Indians go, wherever we reside, we respect diversity.”

Acknowledging international accolades, Modi pointed out the incredible honour that was given to India’s rich cultural heritage when UNESCO inscribed Diwali to its Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. He stressed that the recognition reflects the global relevance of Indian traditions, calling it a source of pride for Indians worldwide.
Speaking about India-Oman ties, PM Modi highlighted the celebration of India-Oman Maitri Parv and emphasised the significance of it, saying, “M stands for Maritime heritage, A stands for Aspirations, I stands for Innovation, T stands for Trust and Technology, R stands for Respect and I stands for Inclusive Growth.” Thus, explaining that this celebration is for the long-standing friendship between the two nations, their shared history and for a prosperous future.
He also noted that centuries-old ties between India and Oman that began with trade guided by the Indian Ocean’s monsoon winds have today evolved and strengthened through education. He further expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards His Majesty the Late Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said of Oman, without whose efforts the establishment of Indian education in Oman wouldn’t have been possible. He also lauded His Majesty Hathim bin Tariq Al Said for continuing and deepening the historic ties between the two countries.
With the 50-year milestone of Indian education in Oman, Modi emphasised the role of education in fostering stronger cultural relations and encouraging the diaspora to cherish this heritage and share it with their Omani friends.
