Pronouncing the verdict of an offence committed 21 years back, a Court in Kendrapara district found two individuals guilty of dishonouring the tricolor during the observance of Independence Day function and sentenced the duo to two-year imprisonment.
The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) , Rajnagar, Shibani MIshra convicted Sheikh Aiuddin (45) and Sheikh Nashiruddin (47) under Section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971, said prosecution counsel, Nalinikanta Mangaraj.

The convicted duo had defaced the national flag hoisted at Government-run Binapani Primary school at Kanakanagar village under Rajnagar police station jurisdiction on 15 August 2004.
Another accused- Sheikh Mouddin -who perpetrated the offence in company of the convicts passed away in 2020. The Court awarded the sentence on the strength of material evidence and deposition of eight witnesses, concluded Mangaraj.
