The countdown is on! ‘Stranger Things’ season 5 volume 2 is just days away. And, Netflix has dropped the trailer that has fans both thrilled and heartbroken. While the first part of the season kept some of our favorite characters safe, the new trailer hints at a dark and bloody ride ahead. Fans are now worried: will Steve Harrington survive?
From villain to fan-favourite
Steve Harrington wasn’t always the lovable hero that we adore today. When he first appeared, fans weren’t impressed. He had this arrogant and self-centered attitude.

But over the seasons, Steve’s transformation has been remarkable. He has grown from popular teen with sharp tongue to ultimate babysitter for the younger kids of Hawkins. Needless to say, he has won hearts everywhere. His friendship with Dustin has been one of the sweetest arcs on the show, filled with humour, loyalty and genuine care.

According to the Duffer Brothers, Steve was actually supposed to die in season one. But Joe Keery’s performance was so captivating that the creators couldn’t bring themselves to kill him off.
Fans were also invested in the love triangle between Steve, Nancy, and Jonathan, making him too valuable to lose… until now.
The shadow of death
The latest trailer for volume 2 makes one thing clear: no one is safe. The Duffer Brothers have warned that season 5 will be the bloodiest yet, with high stakes and multiple deaths. Steve, Hawkins’ unofficial hero and the show’s most charming character, seems to be standing right in the line of danger.
By the end of volume 1, Steve was showing his caring side more than ever. Comforting Nancy after her family was attacked and her sister kidnapped by Vecna, he reminded us of his dreams of having a big family with her. His bond with Dustin was also more prominent making every moment they share feel meaningful and fragile.
A clip from the trailer shows a chilling dialogue between Steve and Dustin: “You die, I die.” Could this foreshadow Steve sacrificing himself to save his friends? It seems likely… and heartbreaking.
A heroic goodbye?
If Steve does sacrifice himself, it would be one of the most emotional moments in Stranger Things history. Fans might have already mourned Eddy Munson, and another loss would leave Hawkins’ young heroes even more vulnerable.
Steve’s potential death would not only devastate Dustin. It would also break the hearts of millions of fans.
‘Stranger Things’ has always been a rollercoaster. But this Christmas and New Year might be tougher for fans than ever.
