Traffic in parts of central Delhi is expected to slow down on Monday afternoon, with the Delhi Traffic Police putting curbs in place for an event linked to football star Lionel Messi’s G.O.A.T India Tour at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
The event is scheduled between 1 pm and 4 pm, but restrictions will remain in force for a longer window as authorities brace for heavy footfall and vehicle movement around the Ferozshah Kotla area.

As per the advisory, stretches of Bahadurshah Zafar Marg and Jawaharlal Nehru Marg will see regulated traffic flow. Heavy vehicles will not be allowed to ply on routes connecting Daryaganj to Bahadurshah Zafar Marg and from Guru Nanak Chowk towards Asaf Ali Road.
Officials said the restrictions are aimed at easing congestion near the venue and ensuring the smooth movement of spectators.
Commuters have been asked to avoid several busy stretches between 12 noon and 5 pm, a period likely to see maximum pressure on roads. These include parts of JLN Marg between Rajghat and Delhi Gate, the Asaf Ali Road stretch near Turkman Gate, and both carriageways of Bahadurshah Zafar Marg between Delhi Gate and ITO.
Traffic staff will be deployed across junctions to enforce diversions and prevent bottlenecks.
Entry into the stadium has been divided by gate numbers to prevent overcrowding. Gates 1 to 8 will be accessed from the southern side via Bahadurshah Zafar Marg. Gates 10 to 15 have been linked to JLN Marg near the Ambedkar Stadium Bus Terminal, while Gates 16 to 18 will be approached from the western side of Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, near the petrol pump.
Spectators have been advised to reach their designated gates directly.
Free parking has been arranged at Mata Sundari Road, Velodrome Road, and Rajghat Power House Road. Parking close to the stadium will be allowed only for authorised vehicles, with entry permitted through the Vikram Nagar cut near Shahidi Park.
The police have made it clear that parking will not be permitted along Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, JLN Marg or the Ring Road stretch between Rajghat and the IP Flyover. Vehicles found parked in violation will be towed.
For those using app-based taxis, pick-up and drop-off points have been fixed at Maulana Azad Medical College Gate No 2 on Bahadurshah Zafar Marg and Rajghat Chowk.
The Delhi Traffic Police has appealed to the public to plan travel in advance and follow official advisories to avoid inconvenience.
