According to ADG (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash, the STF had been receiving intelligence inputs indicating that several absconding and reward-listed criminals were still involved in criminal activities.
Acting on these inputs, STF units were instructed to intensify intelligence gathering. Under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Shailesh Pratap Singh (STF Field Unit, Prayagraj) and the leadership of Inspector Jai Prakash Rai, a dedicated team was constituted.
He stated that during intelligence operations, the team received information that Afzar Ahmed, a resident of Sallahpur under Police Station Puramufti, District Prayagraj, was hiding near Sapna Stand on Kalka Road, under Police Station Amar Colony in South East Delhi.
Acting swiftly, a team comprising Sub-Inspector Gulzar Singh, Head Constables Pramanjan Pandey, Ajay Singh Yadav, Anoop Rai, and Driver Constable Akhand Pratap Pandey conducted a raid at the identified location and apprehended the accused on Wednesday morning.
During interrogation, Afzar Ahmed confessed that he is a resident of Prayagraj and used to visit deceased mafia figure Ashraf, brother of the late Atiq Ahmed, during his incarceration at Bareilly Jail.
He further revealed that using his own ID, he facilitated jail meetings for other associates, including Azhar, Lalla Gaddi, Guddu Muslim, Sabir, and Arman. He disclosed that Ashraf, while lodged in Bareilly Jail, conspired with his associates to threaten, intimidate, and eliminate witnesses.
Based on these activities, the aforementioned case was registered at Police Station Bithari Chainpur, Bareilly. Afzar had been absconding since then and had been hiding in Delhi to evade arrest.
The arrested accused will now be handed over to Police Station Bithari Chainpur, Bareilly, for further legal proceedings in connection with Case Crime No. 86/2023.
