The Special Judge (POCSO) Court in Odisha’s Bargarh on Tuesday convicted two individuals for eve-teasing and harassing a group of seven minor girls while they were on their way to school three years back.

The accused persons, Pintu Matari and Chudamani Matari, natives of Barlabahal village under Barpali police station jurisdiction, were found guilty of Sections 341/34 IPC and Section 12 of the POCSO Act. The Court sentenced them to three-year rigorous imprisonment besides one month of simple imprisonment, the prosecution counsel stated.

The case involved seven minor girls, who were obstructed and abused by the accused persons on 29 September 2022 while they were going to their high school. The Court also awarded R 1.50 lakh compensation to each of the victims.

During the trial, the prosecution examined 28 witnesses and exhibited 23 documents. The Court, after evaluating the evidence, held both accused guilty, added the prosecution counsel.
