Pointing out that the performance of central ministers was under the domain of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and he would not intervene, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday came out in the defence of Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, slamming the YSRCP for demanding the latter’s dismissal.

Naidu also stated that it was Indigo that had faltered over the implementation of Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) norms suggested by a Parliamentary Standing Committee.

Naidu pointed out that Indigo, as a low-cost carrier, had not recruited adequate staff over the years. With the implementation of FDTL, the airline was forced to comply and that led to the sudden cancellation of flights on 4 and 5 December. “This sudden disruption has caused severe inconvenience to passengers due to Indigo’s poor roster planning. That is where they committed the mistake,” he said.

He made it clear that as a chief minister, he does not interfere in the performance of central ministers, as it was the Prime Minister’s prerogative. Lashing out at YSRCP, he said, “There is no head and tail of that party.

“They will do all these things. They want to do something sensational. They will blame and throw mud at us. They want to escape all those crimes they have committed and that is why they are talking. But it is in the Government of India domain. Generally, the performance of central ministers (come under) the prerogative of the Prime Minister. A chief minister won’t intervene. Even for my Cabinet, I am responsible.”

Former YSRCP MP Margani Bharat today said at the party office in Rajahmundry that the current Indigo crisis was due to the incompetence of K Ram Mohan Naidu. He alleged that the FDTL was implemented without any proper departmental review.

He said passenger safety was thrown to the wind and other airlines took advantage of the situation to sharply increase fares, which exposed the incompetence of the ministry under TDP and called for the removal of the civil aviation minister.
