According to officials, Surya Pratap Singh, originally from Deoria, worked as an executive engineer at Eveready Company and lived with his family in Janakipuram, Lucknow.
A few years ago, he began tutoring Ratna’s daughters, Jahnavi (18) and Anushka (14). Ratna, whose husband had passed away around six years earlier, developed a relationship with Surya.
Despite family opposition, the two decided to live together and moved into a rented house two years ago.
Investigations have revealed that Surya and Ratna had been frequently arguing in recent months. On Sunday night, one such dispute escalated, allegedly leading to the fatal attack.
The victim was reportedly hacked to death with a knife. After the murder, the three remained in the house before informing the police.
On Monday morning, Ratna contacted the police and reported the incident. Local police, forensic teams, and DCP officers reached the spot, collected evidence, and took Ratna and her daughters into custody.
The deceased’s father, Narendra Singh, also arrived at the scene and expressed deep anguish. He alleged that all three were involved in his son’s murder.
The police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and are continuing to question the accused.
