Former India pacer, who returned for a second stint as an administrator in Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), has pledged to ensure the return of Indian Premier League (IPL) and international fixtures to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, while placing strong emphasis on strengthening cricket across Karnataka.

Prasad, who earlier served as KSCA vice-president between 2010 and 2013, was recently elected president, and vowed to restore Chinnaswamy’s standing as an elite international venue.

The appointment of Prasad, who featured in 33 Tests and 161 ODIs for India, comes at a crucial stage for the association, which has faced significant criticism in the aftermath of the June 4 stampede at the stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 victory parade, a tragedy that resulted in 11 deaths.

“Humbled to take on the responsibility as KSCA President. Committed to bringing IPL and international cricket back to Chinnaswamy, and to working for the growth of Karnataka cricket at all levels. With teamwork, transparency and dedication, we will get there. Thank you to every member who placed their faith in me,” Prasad wrote on social media.

Former India batter Sujith Somasunder was elected vice-president, while Santosh Menon returned as secretary after previously holding the position from 2019 to 2022. BN Madhukar will serve as treasurer, and BK Ravi, the lone winner from the rival KN Shanth Kumar panel, has been elected joint secretary.

The election process was marked by high drama, including rejected nominations and a case before the High Court. On polling day, 1,307 members cast their votes, slightly fewer than the all-time high of 1,351 recorded in 2013.
