Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren appeared before the Special MP-MLA Court in Ranchi on Saturday in connection with a case related to the alleged violation of Enforcement Directorate summons. Acting in compliance with a recent High Court directive, Soren reached the civil court amid tight security and furnished two bail bonds of Rs 7,000 each.

The Chief Minister appeared before the court of Judge Sarthak Sharma. After completing the judicial formalities, he left for his residence. Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan and several lawyers were present in the courtroom during the proceedings.

According to advocate Pradeep Chandra, representing the Chief Minister, the High Court has already clarified that Soren will not be required to appear personally during the trial. The next hearing is scheduled for December 12, and his lawyers will present submissions on his behalf.

The case stems from a complaint filed by the Enforcement Directorate on February 19, 2024, alleging that the Chief Minister ignored eight summons issued in connection with a money-laundering probe. On December 3, the Jharkhand High Court granted significant relief, directing Soren to appear only once, on December 6, and exempting him from personal attendance during the trial.

The High Court also noted that if the trial court seeks his presence for specific reasons, he will need to attend either in person or through video conferencing.

The matter continues to draw political and legal attention in Jharkhand, with the proceedings set to resume next week.
