Congress leader Jairam Ramesh Thursday highlighted the significance of the upcoming India-Russia summit, marking 70 years since Soviet leaders Nikolai Bulganin and Nikita Khrushchev’s landmark visit to India in 1955. The visit laid the foundation for close Indo-Soviet collaboration, establishing key institutions like the Bhilai Steel Plant and IIT Bombay, and paving the way for technology transfer and public sector growth.

“The India-Russia relationship is the direct outcome and continuation of the Indo-Soviet partnership cemented for the first time in the second half of 1955,” Ramesh said in a post on handle X, emphasising the enduring legacy of the partnership. He noted that the visit led to the manufacturing of MiG aircraft by HAL and shaped the future of ONGC and other public sector companies.
