On Wednesday, the second day of Kashi Tamil Sangamam (KTS)-4.0, a group of students from Tamil Nadu arrived at Hanuman Ghat here. They bathed in the River Ganges and offered prayers to Mother Ganga.

During the event, the visiting scholars were provided with detailed information about the history and significance of the various ghats along the Ganges.

The Tamil guests then visited the residence of the great poet Subramania Bharati at Hanuman Ghat. There, they met with Bharati’s family members. The students displayed a keen curiosity about Bharati’s life. They also visited the library located near Bharati’s residence and studied from the material available there.

The student group also visited the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetha (Kanchi Monastery) and learned about its glorious history. The young group was very excited to see the South Indian-style temples in Kashi.

Pandit Venkat Raman Ghanpathi said that the relationship between Kashi and Tamil Nadu is centuries old, and this Sangamam is not just a fortnight-long event but a symbol of thousands of years of cultural unity.

He explained that a mini Tamil Nadu exists at Hanuman Ghat, Kedar Ghat, and Harishchandra Ghat. Thousands of families from various states of South India have lived here for generations, a living testimony to the cordial relations between the two regions. Hanuman Ghat alone has over 150 homes belonging to Tamil families, and the Kashi Tamil Sangamam is held spontaneously every day in its streets.
