The Odisha government has deployed state-of-the-art drones, all-terrain vehicles, fast interceptors’ vessels besides releasing Rs 26.149 crore budgetary allocations in the current fiscal to further invigorate the coastal security system along the 480 km long coastline, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi told the Assembly on Monday.

Replying to a query by BJD MLA Tusharkanti Behera, CM Majhi, in a written reply, said the Coast Guard and State’s marine police in joint coordination are conducting exercises to curb sea route infiltration, subversive activities and sea route smuggling.

The State has 18 marine police stations which are keeping a 24×7 vigil along the sea routes. To avert infiltration bids, special police officers (SPOs) each have been stationed at the fish landing centres.

Five sea-worthy vessels have been hired to step up patrolling while 15 fast interceptor boats are on the job keeping constant sea vigil.

Besides, four all-terrain vehicles have been provided to seaside Kendrapara, Balsore, Puri and Berhampur. These vehicles will patrol difficult terrains, sandy shores and mangrove forests to enhance the existing coastal security setup.

For coastal surveillance, ten state-of-the-art drones are being procured to strengthen coastal patrolling, CM said adding that Rs 26.149 crore budgetary allocations have been made to further enhance coastal security mechanism.
