Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav has alleged that while the BJP is celebrating Constitution Day today, it is simultaneously attempting to take away people’s right to vote through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.
“A conspiracy has been hatched through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to strike off millions of voters in Uttar Pradesh,” he claimed, adding that several million voters in West Bengal would also be denied their voting rights.

Speaking to the media here on Wednesday after watching the film 120 Bahadur at a multiplex, Yadav said the manner in which the SIR is being carried out clearly reflects the “vindictive attitude” of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
“I had already requested a three-month extension for the SIR, but there has been no response from the ECI. Several BLOs and other officials, working under immense pressure, have been ending their lives, yet the Commission remains adamant about continuing the SIR. We have definite information that several million names will be struck off the voter lists in the state,” he alleged.
Reacting to Constitution Day, the SP president said the Constitution must be further strengthened and its democratic values must be fully protected.
“But the BJP, through constitutional bodies, is trying to weaken the Constitution and deny people their rights,” he alleged.
Meanwhile, speaking about the film 120 Bahadur, Akhilesh Yadav said it portrays the bravery of Indian soldiers and shows how the Army safeguards the nation even in the toughest situations.
He mentioned that he visited a theatre after a long time and expressed pride in the courage displayed by the soldiers.
