BJP leader Samrat Choudhary has become the new Home Minister of Bihar after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar gave up the key portfolio he held for around two decades.
As per the portfolio distribution announced today, Samrat Choudhary has got the home department, while the JDU has been alloted the finance.

According to an official notification, JDU leader Bijendra Prasad Yadav has been named as the finance minister of Bihar.

Nitish Kumar, who took oath as the Chief Minister for the record 10th term on Thursday, has kept general administration department, cabinet secretariat, and vigilance portfolios.

In the 2025 Assembly Elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party with 89 seats, followed closely by JDU’s 85 seats. Smaller NDA allies also delivered strong performances- Chirag Paswan’s LJP (RV) won 19 seats, Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM(S) and Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha secured 5 and 4 seats, respectively.
The portfolio distribution came a day after Nitish Kumar took oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the 10th time at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, and other prominent NDA leaders attended the wearing-in ceremony.
BJP leaders Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha took oath as Deputy Chief Ministers of Bihar.
Along with Nitish, 26 ministers from NDA’s constituent parties — 14 from BJP, 8 from JD(U), 2 from LJP (Ram Vilas), and 1 each from HAM and RLM — also took oath.
