Pooja Bhatt sparks conversation by calling singlehood a sacred mission

Actress and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt has once again sparked conversation and this time about relationships and singlehood.

Taking to Instagram, Pooja shared a striking picture of herself where the sunlight filters through curtains casting playful shadows across her face. Alongside the image, she wrote something thought-provoking: “Singleness is not a curse. It is a sacred assignment.”

Pooja’s journey in the film industry began early. She first appeared in the television film ‘Daddy’ in 1989. However it was the romantic comedy ‘Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin’ that truly catapulted her to fame. It went on to become one of her highest-grossing films.

Over the years she delivered memorable performances in a range of films including ‘Sadak’, ‘Junoon’, ‘Naraaz’, ‘Angrakshak’, ‘Chaahat’, ‘Tamanna’, ‘Border’, ‘Angaaray’, ‘Zakhm’.

After taking a brief break from the spotlight, Pooja returned with her latest project. It is the English-language coming-of-age drama series ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’ which premiered in 2024. The series was created by Nitya Mehra and executive producer was Sudhanshu Saria. It featured a talented ensemble cast including Mukul Chadda, Raima Sen, Zoya Hussain, Avantika, Tenzin Lhakyila, Aneet Padda, Dalai, Vidushi, and Afrah Sayed.

Pooja also made her mark in reality television by participating in the second OTT edition of ‘Bigg Boss’. The grand finale on 14 August 2023 saw Elvish Yadav becoming the first wildcard contestant to win the show. Abhishek Malhan finished as the runner-up.

Looking ahead now, Pooja is going to return to the big screen in a unique role. She will play the mother of actor Jitendra Kumar, known for his work in ‘Panchayat’, in a film centered around India’s pigeon-flying culture. The story explores the tradition of training homing pigeons and flying them from rooftops, a practice that continues in some neighbourhoods in India and among pigeon enthusiasts worldwide.
