Addressing a Press conference at the Kolkata Press Club, the party’s general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya said Bengal required “a rapid revival of Left politics as a viable third force” to break the bipolar political structure taking shape in the state. “The Prime Minister and BJP leaders are openly talking about ‘Anga, Banga, Kalinga’. They have captured Bihar and Odisha, and now their target is Bengal. I believe the people of Bengal will resist this expansionist design,” he said. The CPI(ML) Liberation will hold its three-day state conference at Naihati in North 24-Parganas from 18 to 20 November.

On Tuesday, a public meeting titled ‘Bangla Chai Bampanthar Punorjagoron’ (Bengal wants a Left resurgence) will be held, where CPI(M) state secretary Md Salim and leaders of the state Left Front are scheduled to address delegates. Party leaders said the conference would focus on breaking the “dual polarisation” between the BJP and the Trinamul, and on building a Left alternative rooted in people’s struggles.

He said three developments before and during the polls had shaped the results. He flagged alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, claiming names had been both wrongly added and deleted. “Many dead persons remain on the list; 500 names appear under the same address; and several entries have no house numbers,” he said, adding that “organised booth-capturing” had occurred at various places.
