Former Director General of Police (DGP) R Sreelekha and former sportsperson and Sports Council Secretary Padmini Thomas are among the BJP’s candidates announced on Sunday for the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation elections expected to be conducted next month.
BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar announced the names of 67 candidates in the first list. The BJP is preparing to contest the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation polls by fielding prominent figures, including former DGP R Sreelekha and former sportsperson and Sports Council Secretary Padmini Thomas, among the high-ranking party functionaries. Maheshwaran Nair and Thampanoor Sathish, who left the Congress, figure among the candidates announced by the saffron party.
Sreelekha will contest from the Sasthamangalam ward, while Padmini Thomas will seek election from Palayam, and BJP state secretary VV Rajesh will stand from Kodunganoor ward. Anil Kazhakkoottam has been fielded from Kazhakkoottam, while T S Anilkumar is seeking the election from Perorkada ward.
In the outgoing 100-member Corporation council, the BJP has 35 members.
