Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala on Thursday said that the High Court’s observation that the Sabarimala gold theft is linked to an international smuggling gang is extremely serious and that the case should be handed over to the CBI for further investigation.

Speaking to the media here, Rmesh Chennithala said the Kerala High Court has on Wednesday said that it is necessary to find out whether large international rackets like Subhash Kapoor’s racket, which smuggles valuables out of the country, are involved in the Sabarimala gold heist.

“The role of all the Travancore Board presidents, members and senior officials during the period of the loot should also be investigated. There were three Devaswom ministers during this period. The role of each one should be investigated,” he said.

Meanwhile, Opposition leader VD Satheesan has on Thursday said that the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) President P S Prashanth and the board members be accused in the Sabarimala gold case in the wake of the High Court’s remarks against the TDB.

In a statement here, on Thursday, Satheesan demanded that all the objects in Sabarimala temple should be examined and made sure that they are original.

The Kerala High Court had on Wednesday come down heavily on the TDB for giving a free reign to main accused Unnikrishnan Potty to access the Sreekovil and take measurements of the artefacts there.

It also seared into the TDB for not including the decision taken on September 2, 2025 allowing gold-plating of dwarapalaka idols, in the minutes book. With the court flexing its muscles, the question is whether the SIT would arrest N Vasu , former TDB president and other TDB office bearers.
