The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested an operative of the notorious terror outfit, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan(TTP), Maulana Osama Ommar, on charges of “anti-national activities”.
The ATS arrested Maulana Osama from Sanchore in a joint action with the NIA and IB after conducting raids across several districts in Rajasthan last week. Five suspects were also taken into custody from Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Sanchore, Karauli, and Pipad City.

The five suspects were later brought to Jaipur for joint interrogation by the central security agencies. Four of them were released after four days of intensive questioning, while Maulana Osama was arrested on Wednesday, Inspector General (ATS) Vikas Kumar said.
Although the agencies did not find any evidence of foreign funding to Osama, he had been in contact with the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) through internet-based international calls for the past four years. His activities were found to pose a national security concern; hence, he has been arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
Maulana Osama was produced before a trial court on Thursday afternoon. He hails from Barmer district and had been living in Sanchore for a long time. Before his detention, he was reportedly planning to flee to Afghanistan.
