The Delhi Police are considering adding Section 231 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to the FIR in the Delhi University acid attack case.
Section 231 deals with giving or fabricating false evidence with the intent to procure a conviction for an offence punishable by life imprisonment or imprisonment.

This charge will be added against the DU student, her father Akeel, uncle Wakil, and brother Yunus.
The student had alleged that Jitender, Arman, and Ishan threw acid on her. However, the police investigation found that her own father was responsible for the act to trap the accused.
The police investigation also revealed that Shamshuddin, the brother-in-law of Akeel, had thrown acid on the mother of Ishan and Arman back in 2018 in Mangolpuri.
“The family was also pressuring the mother of Ishan and Arman to change her statement in connection with that acid attack case. She is scheduled to record her evidence against Shamshuddin in January. Akeel was assisting Shamsuddin and pressuring Shabnam, the mother of Ishan and Arman, to turn hostile,” said a senior official.
During the investigation, police learned that Akeel had allegedly raped Jitender’s wife and was forcing her to withdraw the complaint. When she refused, he hatched the entire plan to frame the others.
Akeel Khan was previously arrested by the Bhalswa Dairy Police in connection with the rape case and was on a one-day police remand.
Both Akeel and Wakil are currently in judicial custody.
