According to police sources, Lalita left home as usual early Monday for a walk with a teenage neighbour. However, instead of returning home, she reportedly took a roadways bus and reached the Ganga Barrage area in Bijnor.

Witnesses told police that Lalita and the teenager were walking on the barrage bridge when the incident occurred. The teenager immediately called for help, and residents alerted the authorities.
Soon after, the police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams reached the spot and began a search operation in the river. The Irrigation Department also assisted by regulating the barrage gates to aid the rescue efforts.

Mirapur Police Station in-charge, Ravindra Singh, confirmed that the search operation was underway and that all efforts were being made to locate Lalita. Her family has been informed, and police officials are in touch with them for further assistance.

Preliminary inquiries indicate that Lalita had been under stress due to her exam preparation, but officials stressed that the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.
