57-year-old female bootlegger arrested; over 1,300 litres of illicit liquor seized

The Delhi Police on Sunday arrested a 57-year-old woman from Jyoti Nagar, in the northeast of the city, after officers recovered a massive haul of illicit liquor from her possession during a routine evening patrol, they said.

The Delhi Police on Sunday arrested a 57-year-old woman from Jyoti Nagar, in the northeast of the city, after officers recovered a massive haul of illicit liquor from her possession during a routine evening patrol, they said.

According to the police, the arrest was made when two officials from the team were on patrol duty when they noticed a woman sitting suspiciously on her doorstep with a bucket covered by a cloth.

When the team conducted a thorough check, it found several liquor quarters concealed inside, which were seized by the police, a senior police officer said.

Following this confiscation, a police raid at her premises led to the recovery of 7,309 quarters — amounting to 1,315.62 litres of country-made liquor labelled “For Sale in Haryana Only”. The accused, identified as Ms ABC, was taken into custody.

The officer in his statement mentioned that a case under section 33 of the Delhi Excise Act has been registered against her at Jyoti Nagar police station, and an investigation into this case is ongoing by the team.

Preliminary inquiry into this case revealed that the accused has a history of crime, as she was involved in a bootlegging case earlier, with eight previous cases of a similar nature registered against her.

The officer in his statement further added that the arrest and commended the patrolling team for their alertness in curbing the illegal liquor trade in the area.
