Congress leader Jairam Ramesh Thursday sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election campaign rhetoric in Bihar, accusing the government of neglecting the soaring crimes against women in the state.

Taking to platform X, he highlighted disturbing incidents and questioned the Prime Minister’s moral authority to seek votes from Bihar’s women while remaining silent on their safety and well-being.

“The Prime Minister is appealing to the women of Bihar to vote for him from their soil. But the truth is, under the double-engine government, the daughters of Bihar are utterly helpless,” Ramesh wrote. “Crimes against women, including sexual violence, have reached alarming levels. The government’s sensitivity has only diminished.”

He pointed to a tragic case in May this year, where an 11-year-old Dalit girl, critically injured, was denied a hospital bed at Patna Medical College and Hospital for eight hours and eventually died in an ambulance. “The Prime Minister comes, fills his speeches with false promises, entertains the public briefly, and says nothing about these atrocities,” Ramesh charged.

Ramesh also recalled the 2018 Muzaffarpur shelter home scandal, where over 34 minor girls were sexually exploited. “Despite the scandal implicating the husband of then-minister Manju Verma, she was given a ticket in 2020, and now her son is contesting from the same area,” he pointed out.

Adding to the outrage, he cited a recent incident in Cheria Bariarpur, Begusarai, where the semi-naked body of a 13-year-old girl was found, with initial reports suggesting sexual violence before murder.

“After such grave incidents, does the Prime Minister retain any moral right to seek votes from the women of Bihar? The people have decided for change. They are determined to uproot this government through their votes,” Ramesh asserted.

His remarks spotlight the growing public outcry over women’s safety in Bihar and intensify political pressure on the ruling party to address these urgent concerns ahead of the elections.
