Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav Tuesday lashed out at the BJP government, accusing it of squeezing the sugar mills of Uttar Pradesh like sugarcane through corruption and complicity. In a scathing statement on his WhatsApp channel, Yadav demanded immediate payment of outstanding dues to sugarcane farmers, along with interest, and slammed the BJP for its alleged anti-farmer policies.
“The BJP’s complicity in corruption has squeezed the sugar mills of Uttar Pradesh like sugarcane. Will the bankruptcy of UP’s mills and the continuous closure of factories and shops lead to a trillion-dollar economy?” Yadav questioned.

Yadav’s demand for immediate payment of outstanding dues to sugarcane farmers comes amid reports of financial distress in the sugar industry. “Immediate payment of outstanding dues to sugarcane farmers, along with interest, is demanded,” he emphasized.
The SP chief’s attack on the BJP comes as part of a larger narrative of the ruling party’s alleged anti-farmer stance. “The BJP has been, is, and will always be anti-farmer,” Yadav alleged, highlighting the party’s alleged failure to address the concerns of sugarcane farmers in Uttar Pradesh.
The sugar industry in Uttar Pradesh is facing significant challenges, with millers struggling to clear arrears of over Rs 2,700 crore owed to sugarcane farmers. The financial distress in the industry has raised concerns about the impact on farmers and the overall economy.
As the state prepares for elections, the SP chief’s demand for immediate payment to sugarcane farmers is likely to add to the BJP’s woes.
