Shocking revelations emerge in case

In a shocking twist in the DU acid attack case, major revelations have emerged, making the case even more tangled. A complex web of lies, deceit, and personal vendetta has come to light in this twisted saga, where women have been used as objects of revenge.

The father, Aqeel Khan, of the acid attack 20-year-old victim told investigators that he and his daughter fabricated the acid attack story to implicate the woman’s husband and his two relatives, all of whom were involved in legal and personal disputes with the supposed acid attack victim’s father. He confessed that he, along with his daughter, concocted the acid attack story to settle scores. The supposed acid attack accused’s wife has filed a rape complaint against the fake acid attack victim’s father, as per media reports.

The 20-year-old Delhi University student on Monday alleged that she suffered burn injuries after being attacked with acid by a man who had been stalking her, along with his two associates, while she was on her way to attend an extra class in the national capital. The alleged incident, which took place near Laxmi Bai College on Sunday morning, has triggered widespread outrage.

According to the second-year BCom student enrolled with the DU Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board, the main accused, Jitendra, who was known to her, carried out the attack with two brothers, Ishan and Arman. She told police that Jitendra was riding a motorcycle with Ishan as pillion, who passed a bottle to Arman, who then hurled the acid-like substance at her.

The student said she raised her hands to shield her face, suffering burns on both arms. She also alleged that Jitendra had been stalking her for weeks, and the two had a verbal altercation about a month earlier.

The case takes a dramatic turnaround

The investigator’s statement adds to the growing chorus of revelations. He confirmed that CCTV footage contradicts the woman’s acid attack claims. He added that the woman used toilet cleaner from her home to injure herself and stage the attack.

The ‘fake’ acid attack victim’s father had apparently sought revenge against the woman who had filed a rape complaint against him by falsely implicating her husband and two relatives.

Police said that two days before the alleged acid attack, on Friday, the wife of the accused in the ‘fake’ acid attack case had filed a complaint accusing the 20-year-old’s father of rape and blackmail. In her statement, she said she had worked at his factory between 2021 and 2024, during which time he allegedly raped her and threatened to leak her private photos and videos.

When summoned for questioning in the case, the rape accused sent his lawyer and an Islamic preacher instead of appearing in person, prompting police to launch a search for him. He was eventually tracked down to Sangam Vihar and arrested late Monday night.

CCTV footage showed that on Sunday, the woman left her house on a two-wheeler with her brother, who dropped her in the Ashok Vihar area. From there, she was seen boarding an e-rickshaw. None of the three alleged accused is seen in the footage, police said. Officers, who examined the scene, found no trace of acid, and the burns on the woman’s hands remain under medical review.

Another revelation of harassment has emerged from the mother of the other two accused, Arman and Ishan. The brothers are currently in Agra with their mother, Shabnam.

Shabnam alleged that she was also attacked with acid in 2018 by Khan’s relatives. There is also an ongoing dispute between Shabnam and Khan over a property in Mangolpuri. The matter is sub judice.
