In a shocking incident, two players of the Australian Women’s Cricket Team participating in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup were allegedly stalked and molested by a bike-borne miscreant in Indore.

The incident, which occurred two days ago, came to light on Saturday. The Australian team is currently in Indore to play their group-stage match. Police said the accused has been arrested.

Police officials said the two players were walking along Khajrana Road from their hotel to a cafe located about 500 metres away at around 11 am on Thursday.

The miscreant, who had been following them on a motorcycle, came close to the two players, passed lewd comments, and allegedly touched one of them inappropriately before fleeing the scene.

The players immediately informed the security in charge of the Australian team, who apprised the local security personnel about the incident.

The police also rushed to the spot along with the security staff of the team and the hotel.

Indore Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra met the two players and recorded their statements.

She said that an FIR was registered under sections 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the MIG police station based on their statements.

Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi stated that during the investigation, an eyewitness informed the police about the registration number of the miscreant’s motorcycle.

Acting on the input, the police nabbed the accused, who has been identified as Aqueel Khan.

The police officer said that criminal cases had been registered against Khan in the past.
