SP counters BJP’s “double engine” with “strong engine” slogan

The Samajwadi Party (SP) has introduced its political slogan, “Strong Engine Government,” to counter the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) slogan of a “Double Engine Government,” which the saffron party has been using to boost its election campaigns and has helped it win elections in several states.

A striking hoarding featuring party chief Akhilesh Yadav depicted as a train engine was unveiled outside the SP office in Lucknow. The billboard boldly reads, “One Engine, Strong Engine.” The train coaches on the hoarding display the names of key schemes launched during the Samajwadi Party’s tenure.

The hoarding, installed by Jairam Pandey, the SP candidate from the Menhdawal constituency in Sant Kabir Nagar,also includes birthday wishes for Akhilesh Yadav in Sanskrit, a unique touch that caught public attention. Some SP leaders claimed that today is the birthday of party chief Akhilesh Yadav. However, according to official records, Yadav’s date of birth is July 1, 1973.

A message on the billboard reads, “The winds of prosperity will blow again when the powerful engine of power comes to power in 2027.” Alongside Akhilesh Yadav’s photo, greetings for Dhanteras, Diwali, Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj are also displayed.

The verse written in Sanskrit is,” “Adrohaḥ sarvabhūteshu karmana manasa gira. Anugrahaṃcha daṁṁ cha, sīlametad vidurbudhāḥ.” (Meaning, a person who is free from hatred towards all living beings, generous, and humble in his actions, thoughts, and words is called a wise person).

Additionally, the billboards promote the SP’s new PDA formula: P for Progressive, D for Visionary, and A for Peace-loving. The train coaches highlight flagship initiatives such as the Samajwadi pension scheme, Kanya Vidyadhan, the Lucknow-Agra Expressway, the Laptop scheme, the Lucknow Metro, Dial 100, and other robust infrastructure projects.

Jairam Pandey has been creatively commemorating Akhilesh Yadav’s birthday with such hoardings for the past nine years, with last year’s theme celebrating “27s in power.”

Political analysts view the “Strong Engine Government” slogan as part of the SP’s aggressive new campaign strategy, designed to directly counter BJP’s slogans and energize its voter base ahead of upcoming elections.
