NDMC accelerates anti-pollution drive, installing 30 mist spray systems along Shanti Path and Africa Avenue

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Tuesday said it has intensified efforts to control air pollution in the national capital, with work in progress to install 30 mist spray systems along Shanti Path and Africa Avenue.

“NDMC plans to install these systems in two phases — the first phase covering 10 major roads, and the second phase covering 14 additional roads,” NDMC Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal said while sharing details of the ongoing action plan being implemented to tackle the deteriorating air quality in Delhi at a press conference.

Chahal said mist spray systems installed at a height of 5–6 metres on electric poles have been introduced on a trial basis.

A total of 15 mist spray units have already been installed along Lodhi Road to control localized dust pollution, he added.

He further informed that 1,323 poles covering 29.5 km of road length have been identified for the installation of these systems, with tenders already invited.

Chahal said NDMC is taking intensive measures to effectively control air pollution across its jurisdiction, with all manpower and machinery operating round the clock on a war footing.

“NDMC is fully mobilized with manpower and machinery to combat rising AQI levels,” he said.

“Today, the Delhi-NCR AQI continued to remain in the ‘very poor’ category, with the average AQI recorded at 346 at 5:30 AM, placing most areas in the red zone. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, NDMC has launched a comprehensive pollution control drive focusing on dust suppression, smog reduction, greening, and public participation,” he added.

Chahal further said eight mobile Anti-Smog Guns (ASGs) are deployed daily, covering 320–340 km of NDMC roads.

“Ten ASGs have been installed on private high-rise buildings and three ASGs on NDMC’s own buildings. Seven additional ASGs are being procured for installation on NDMC buildings, and tenders have been invited,” he said.
