After Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw criticized Bengaluru’s infrastructure, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar reacted to her criticism and said, “If she wants to develop them, let her do it.”
Mildly rebuking her comments, Shivakumar said, “If she comes and asks, we will give her the roads.”

Shivakumar added that Bengaluru generates Rs 6,000 crore in taxes and that locals already contribute higher taxes. “We have allocated funds for the development of this region and have given permission to spend Rs 50 crore for Bengaluru,” he said.
Online media came out in support of Shaw who threw light upon Bengaluru’s deteriorating infrastructure and bad garbage management.
After Shaw called out the “pathetic” state of roads and garbage in Bengaluru, thousands of residents joined the chorus, posting stories about daily struggles with potholes, dust, and civic issues.
Even BJP leaders and opposition parties supported Shaw in her criticism. BJP MP CN Manjunath commended her as a “first-generation entrepreneur and global business leader” who has “brought immense fame to Bengaluru and the nation.” He stated that remarks should be seen as “constructive suggestions” and requested the government to act instead of reacting negatively.
JD(S) leader Nikhil Kumaraswamy also took a dig at the Congress government, stating, “Instead of taking Kiran Shaw’s concerns positively and fixing Bengaluru’s mess, Congress ministers are busy threatening her. Maybe Congress filled social media website X with replies, not roads with asphalt.”
