Delhi Police on Monday dismantled an illegal factory involved in manufacturing and packaging counterfeit lubricant oil using the labels of well-known automobile brands, following the arrest of the mastermind, an official said.
According to the police, the accused, 50-year-old Naveen Singhal from Shahdara, was operating the factory from a location in Gokulpuri, which falls under the northeast part of the city, along with four labourers, all of whom were from Uttar Pradesh.

“Police seized approximately 4,000 litres of counterfeit oil and equipment used for sealing, heating, and labeling,” a senior police officer mentioned.

Adding to his statement, the accused purchased raw oil and packaging materials locally and sold the forged lubricants to workshops and retailers at discounted rates.
Following a tip-off, a team of officers conducted a raid in the premises, where representatives of the private company were present, and discovered that a major counterfeiting operation was going on.
The syndicate was reportedly involved in refilling and packaging substandard lubricant oil in counterfeit containers with fake stickers and holograms of established brands, the officer said.
The officer added that the accused falsely labeled the stock as genuine or surplus. The racket produced approximately 8,000 to 10,000 litres of counterfeit oil each month, generating nearly Rs 5 lakh in revenue.
“Singhal has been involved in similar illegal activities since 2004 and has three prior cases registered against him in northeast Delhi, including two under the Copyright Act,” the officer stated.
The team is actively investigating the matter, he added.
