Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, arrived in Deoband, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday.

He will spend about five hours at the renowned Islamic educational institution, Darul Uloom Deoband. During this time, Muttaqi is expected to meet and interact with approximately 20 Afghan-origin students at the institution.

According to sources, a welcome ceremony has been organized for him in the Darul Uloom’s newly constructed circular library. Senior clerics, teachers, and students were present at the event.

A spokesperson for the institute stated that, due to security and tradition, female journalists attending the event have been asked to observe purdah. Muttaqi’s visit is considered his first religious and educational visit to India as a representative of the Taliban regime. He is expected to learn about Darul Uloom’s educational model and the progress of Afghan students.
